Itar-Tass Russian News Agency v. Russian Kurier, Inc.

153 F.3d 82 (2d Cir. 1998)
#

The Russian newspaper Pravda.

During the Soviet Union, ITAR-TASS was the only official source of news for all media outlets, including the infamous Soviet newspaper Pravda, pictured. This information monopoly distinguished it from its Western counter-parts like the Associated Press. (For more discussion about competition in the American newspaper industry, see the discussion of International News Service v. Associated Press.)

The Kurier, ITAR-TASS (which is still state funded) and Pravda all continue to operate.
