Warner Brothers Entertainment v. X One X Productions

644 F.3d 584 (8th Cir. 2011)
#

The original Gone With The Wind poster that WB conceded was public domain.

Gone With the Wind is considered by many to be one of the greatest movies of all time. However, it has also been sharply criticized for romanticizing and glorifying slavery and depicting rape positively. Still, it airs occasionally on Turner Classic Movies.

The Wizard of Oz has also had a long afterlife. Afterlosing the Best Picture award (to Gone With the Wind), it was one of the inaugural inductees into the National Film Registry and has its own place in top movies of all time. It was famous for popularizing Technicolor, where previously movies were in black and white or the earlier Kinemacolor.

Tom and Jerry have passed through many hands over the years, and have been in and out of production since their creation through today. Some of the earlier films have come under criticism for racist depictions, and today come with a content warning. Even now, WB occasionally produces new Tom and Jerry movies.
