Not all "phonorecords" look like this.

In contrast to Section 115, Section 114 protects only against duplication of the actual recording. It provides no remedies at all against imitation, commonly in the form of covers.

Section 114 also contains a compulsory license provision, which is important to internet and satellite radio services such as Pandora and Sirius.

The section 114 compulsory license is adminstered by SoundExchange. The 2015 royalty rates depend on exactly what kind of webcaster you are, but commercial sites pay a fixed fee based on size, and then approximately a quarter of a cent per play of a recording.
