Roley v. New World Pictures, Ltd.

19 F.3d 479 (9th Cir. 1994)
#

The plaintiff Sutton Roley had a successful career as a director for television shows. Some of the series he worked on include Lost in Space, Bonanza, Mission Impossible, Hawaii Five-O and Starsky and Hutch. The defendant Walter Coblenz also had success as a movie producer, working on such films as All the President's Men.

Sister, Sister is a horror/drama about a pair of sisters who have to deal with the brother of a man they murdered years before. It did very poorly at the box office, taking in less than a million dollars overall. Its credited writer, Ginny Cerrella, only wrote one other movie screenplay, the box-office flop Hot Chocolate.
